Diary: March 11 2012

Sunday, 11 March, 2012 – 11:58 am

Yesterday went well with winners at 20/1 and 14/1. The highlight today is the clash between Bog Warrior and Flemenstar at Naas. This is a race best watched though and for my tip I am going for General Ting in the Market Rasen 4.25. He is quite well handicapped and may be suited by this step up in trip.

Sandown

2.05 This race features a number of horses that I have been following this season, Grove Pride, Ambion Wood, Dualla Lord and Off the Ground. Off the Ground looks to have the best chance of the quartet after a recent course and distance win. At a bigger price I would give a chance to Ambion Wood if he can put an indifferent run last time behind him.

3.15 Ted Spread is not a very original selection but he does seem to tick the right boxes. Paintball has an each way chance at a much bigger price.

4.25 Sanctuaire should justify favouritism.

Ayr

4.00 Mallusk has finished second on his last two starts over this trip.

Chepstow

3.05 Minella Stars is a bit of a temperamental sort but ran well at Wincanton last time and can go one better here.

4.50 Buffalo Bob faces an easier task than when beaten here on his last run.

Sunday, 4 March, 2012 – 12:33 pm

Selections for Sunday;

Huntingdon

3.10 Saint Luke travels a long way to contest this, he has come down a couple of pounds in the handicap and AP McCoy has the ride on him for the first time over hurdles.

Leopardstown

3.00 Jenari should appreciate the better ground after getting rather bogged down in the mud last time.

Friday, 2 March, 2012 – 8:33 pm

Doncaster

2.20 Alderley Rover comes from a stable bang in form and will have his favoured ground.

3.25 West End Rocker and Junior are both leading fancies for the Grand National so may not be fully wound up for this. Benny Be Good is 7 lbs higher than when 2nd here on his last run over fences so rather by a process of elimination it could pay to side with the improving Mac Aeda. He comes here on the back of a win at Wetherby, he has a low weight and the stable seem in good nick.

4.00 Aland Islands is a chasing type but he is unbeaten in two starts one in a bumper and one over hurdles. He won the bumper on good and with a Cheltenham Festival entry he should go well.

4.35 Quicuyo has won 3 times at Doncaster and handles any ground.

Kelso

3.05 Fredddie Brown is improving over fences and this could be an opportunity for him to get off the mark.

3.35 Captain Conan was disappointing on his last start but is worth another chance on his form in France and when winning at Sandown.

4.10 This is a tricky race. Master of the Hall has winning form in small fields and with Ballabriggs tackling a trip short of his best he may be the answer.

Going_Away

Newbury

3.10 Aerial was 47th in the Paddy Power and went on to score at Ascot. Fourth on his last start he has dropped 3 lbs in the ratings and should be competitive.

3.45 I will put up the lightly raced Sire Collonges for this although the trip could be on the sharp side for him.

4.20 Gospel Preacher is the each way selection.

5.30 The unbeaten Valdez should give us a run for our money.

From the archives

In 1996 Mysilv finished 6th in the Champion Hurdle and 2 days later was runner up in the Stayers Hurdle. Sadly she later suffered a fatal accident at home.

Diary; March 2 2012

Thursday, 1 March, 2012 – 7:41 pm

Doncaster

2.00 The unbeaten Fourth Estate looks the one to beat in this. The ground should suit.

3.40 Tante Sissi, only narrowly beaten at Sandown last time sets the standard.

Newbury

2.20 Let’s get serious can extend his unbeaten record.

3.30 Railway Dillon is in form and looks the most likely winner.

Bangor

2.55 Not an easy race to weigh up but Kauto Relko is narrowly preferred to Storming Gale and Basford Bob.

3.25 Global Power is back to the same mark as his 2nd at Chepstow last October and is a big price.

4.55 Lucky Landing can follow up his win at Market Rasen with Fishoutofwater and alternative at a bigger price.

Southwell

2.00 Seigneur des Bois comes from a stable that traditionally do well at this time of year and the rider can claim a useful 5 lbs.
