Dear Martin.
I'm thankful for a renewal of information about your Scotty the Samurai.
When Scotty couldn't enter for bumper race by an injury, I'm a little worried. I expect that he will be getting better and plays an active part early sincerely.

If Scotty races in Japan, one all Japan would bring uproar. I'd like to make such day achieved looking forward.

Best regards,
Tayoshi

Tayoshi, the last information I had about this horse was in August when the trainer was thinking of running him in a bumper race, which is a flat race for horses that will one day be raced over hurdles or fences. I have not heard anything since then though and the horse is not currently entered in any races. It is possible that the horse has an injury.

Scotty the Samurai is trained by Alan Swinbank who does run his horses all over the world. He had one horse called Collier Hill who won races in Sweden, Germany, Canada, Dubai, Ireland and Hong Kong, so perhaps you may see Scotty the Samurai run in Japan one day.

Best wishes, Martin

Dear Martin.

How do you do?
I'm the Japanese who likes a thoroughbred.
I read your diary and got very big surprise.
Because I found the name of Scotty the Samurai in a diary of Tuesday, 7 October, 2008.
His parents are a Japanese horse both.
In particular, a father played an active part by a Japanese G1 race.
And, my favorite horse Ten-point was in a mother family line.
Scotty which descends from both of them attracted my attention from his born.

However, his news just wasn't heard any more after he was introduced by a site of http://www.alanswinbank.com/TwoYO/2yearolds.htm
at last year.

So I am very happy to find the name in your diary.
I'd like to know the current condition very much.
If you know, would you please tell me activity informations?

I'll cause you trouble, but please permit me.

Best regards,
T.Yoshida

Hi Arnold,
Long running blog you have, tips and poetry a good combination,
Just wanted to invite you to check out www.racecaller.com and if you like it maybe recommend it to your readers,
It is all free to use and there is €15k cash prize to be won in the Racecaller.com tipster game by end this year, prizes for top 10 finishers with first place taking €5k.
To be in with chance of winning you need to have placed 40 tips by end of the year which means you need to start placing daily tip by this weekend (Nov 15) - our way of making sure someone doesn't come in with a 100/1 on last day,
Anyway if you think worth a mention or just want to have a go yourself, cheers,
Cillian

Hi Martin,

Hope you are well.

I am currently working in York - fantastic place, 75 real ale pubs in city - probably there until end of September, so lots to do!

Wonder if you can throw some sense on a drawdown query I have come across. Skandia have published notes suggesting that if you take max GAD during a payment year but a further crystallisation is made during same year when GAD rates are lower, the recalculated (lower max GAD) is deemed to apply for that payment year rendering part of the max GAD payment taken an unauthorised payment. If true, it is unfair to restrospectively apply a max GAD limit - either Skandia has made a booboo or HMRC not thought it through properly (latter would not surprise me!)

Any thoughts?

On the racing front watch out for Cupids Glory if he turns out again. Had been stalking him following his move to Gary Moore (after Linda Jewell had managed to bring about a 30lb deterioration in his handicap mark). Now accustomed to the AW could go in again with a 6lb penalty if reappears soon. He paid for my recent night out in York on Thursday!

Hope you are well - what are you up to these days FP or otherwise?

Kind regards

Hi Martin,

Great minds again - I did Creachadoir and Majestic Roi (independently again) and laid Colony so another good day.

Thought Haradasun was a bit unlucky as he began his run with Tariq but ran out of racing room. Would not have won but might be rated as placed. Tariq will be hard to place - banker over 7f - and possibly a G1 horse but not too many opportunities at home in that sphere. Like to see him win a mile race but might have to be just below top level.

Off to Goodwood on Weds for the old Predominate and Lupe (since lost name and status). Like Dove Cottage in the 12f handicap - two from three at Goodwood and likely to make all. Could get away from them if they let him and can do that at Goodwood.

Good luck.

Hi Martin,

I had reached same conclusion on Banknote independently alas suffering a similar fate. However, Ordnance Row improved last year and it appears this has continued. Hannon in form too - watch out for the 'nearly' horse Assertive on Weds as the penalised horses (G1 & G2) tend not to win nor do highly drawn horses. Assertive should win more but at 9-1 is not a bad bet as many are badly drawn, penalised or prefer cut.

Also watch out for one of my trainers - Eve Johnson Houghton, last three have won. Beaver Patrol running tomorrow but up in class too much to represent a bet this time.
