Diary: July 2 2010

At the time of penning these notes we have had a couple of winners, hopefully there may be more to come.

Brunston won the Newbury Spring Cup on his first run of the season but has failed to reach that level of form on his two subsequent outings. He runs in the 4.35 at Sandown tomorrow. He will have the ground to suit and his trainer is in good form. He is quite a big price at around 12/1 as on his Newbury from he would have a decent chance. Earlier on the Sandown card I will give a chance to dual course and distance winner Rocket Rob in the 2.20.

Bollin Judith won on her third start last season and comes into the 2.30 at Doncaster on the back of two unsuccessful efforts. She handles the ground and at around 5/1 looks value.

At Haydock High Ransom and Escape Artist make some appeal in the 8.15 while in the 8.50 Cygnet is surely better than he has shown in his two runs thus far in 2010.

ONCE more into my arid days

ONCE more into my arid days like dew,
Like wind from an oasis, or the sound
Of cold sweet water bubbling underground,
A treacherous messenger–the thought of you
Comes to destroy me; once more I renew
Firm faith in your abundance, whom I found
Long since to be but just one other mound
Of sand, whereon no green thing ever grew.
And once again, and wiser is no wise,
I chase your coloured phantom on the air,
And sob and curse and fall and weep and rise
And stumble pitifully on to where,
Miserable and lost, with stinging eyes,
Once more I clasp–and there is nothing there.
